Fourth of July Sweetness

Ya know those soft sugar cookies the grocery store bakery sells? The kind with the yummy, sugary frosting with different seasonal themes? Well, I decided it would be great to make my own from scratch for our fourth of July weekend. I found a recipe online that said it would taste just like those. Soooo, my daughter and I set out to make these yummy treats. However... that recipe lied!  Our cookies are the blandest things I've ever made! And the edges are all dry... boo. LOL They look cute however:

Does anyone have a recipe that really does taste like those cookies in the store? One that you have made and tried and confirmed to be soft, sugary heaven? Let me know! Oh, and Happy Fourth!

I'm about to become a busy little baker. And a few pounds heavier!  If you want some homemade goodies like fudge, english toffee or the peppermint bark I'm about to make, come on by.

Peanut Butter Eyeballs Anyone?

One of our family traditions every Halloween is to make Peanut Butter Eyeballs.  I have been making these for years and as my son said tonight right before stuffing his face with one, "I wait all year for these things!".

What could possibly be better then peanut butter, butter, powdered sugar and white chocolate?  Yeah, I didn't think you had an answer for that!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

No better day then a cold one to bake.  (I can't believe it was 100 degrees last week!)  My back is feeling better and I'm antsy to be doing something so with a house full of kids, cookies sounded good.  I don't know about you, but the only cookie I like crunchy is a Thin Mint, everything else needs to be chewy!  I've had great luck making yummy chocolate chip cookies that stay soft.  Check these out:

Okay, so the secret is... drum roll please... I have slightly modified the Toll House cookie recipe.  Add a tad less butter and less brown sugar.  

 

I don't know why but it does the trick!  The bad thing is they are so good I want to eat them all.  That's why I make them when the house is full! I wish I could make a zillion and send home made cookies to our troops.  Happy Memorial Day!
